I am happy to confirm that Brother Linux support - at least for the
Brother MFC-210C, which we standardized on as our family all-in-one
some three or four years ago and of which we own three - Just Works.
They have up to date drivers (GPL'd) that are clearly identified on
their web site, they have clear instructions on how to set the
permissions via udev for the scanner to work, etc. I'm a fan.

P.S. Conversely, at least in my experience, the worst big name printer
/ scanner / fax vendor for Linux support has to be Canon.
