Re: [PLUG] Brother Linux & tech support

Only problem I've ever had with Brother is that AppArmor on Ubuntu 8.04 has some rule that blocks their driver.  That took forever to figure out, but now I just set apparmor to complain for cupsd and everything works great.  Ironically I tried several times and just couldn't get the Brother driver working on my roomie's XP laptop.  So I've had better luck with Linux than with Windows.

I am happy to confirm that Brother Linux support - at least for the

some three or four years ago and of which we own three - Just Works.
They have up to date drivers (GPL'd) that are clearly identified on
their web site, they have clear instructions on how to set the
permissions via udev for the scanner to work, etc. I'm a fan.

P.S. Conversely, at least in my experience, the worst big name printer
/ scanner / fax vendor for Linux support has to be Canon.

Summary: Brother supports Linux well, if quietly, and has been very

the company and the printer.
