Worked perfectly, it is up now and running, so thanks Gordon and Richard.

It appears all the trouble was caused by trying to do a net install in bridged mode. For the initial net install I just switched to NAT mode. Once installed, I set my static ip on the guest, and set vmware to bridged, and the OS is off and running on the WAN.
