I don't understand why anyone using wireless would use anything but WICD
for controlling access to a wireless router.  For that matter you can
also use WICD for ethernet connections too.  In fact, it's easy to use.
 Only caveat is to disable other wireless software.  Thus switching from
Gnome to KDE, Blackbox, or you name the Desktop won't require changes in
your method of connecting.
