I get the feeling that google is preparing for their next big "not free" product... Google CDN and Caching... And they want to destroy any competition, so get the world to use your "free" DNS, then when everyone is onboard, launch your CDN and Caching services to the big content sites, and bam your in like flynn since most of the world is already using you for name resolution requests.
