I've been using Apple stuff a lot lately. I'm not religious about the stuff I use.

My iPod Touch is better than any other portable music player because it was free. I also like the battery life. On the other hand, I *hate* the fact that it won't play ogg or flac, and I have to use iTunes to manage it. I hate the lock in with the iTunes store.

The same can be said of my iPad. Got it free. Really like the form factor. Great for consuming most content, but try to produce content... the ads lie. I found it more a challenge to get a document off than to configure postfix on Ubuntu server. Web browsing is good, but why no flash? Why can't I download mp3s from my emusic account?

The thing I find is that the shortcomings in Apple products are intentional. The company that designed the plug which you describe, can certainly produce the technology to allow me to watch the Jon Stewart clip someone sent me, or allow me to download media via http. They just don't want to. And that pisses me off.
