Re: [PLUG] Add an HDD to a diskless cluster node?

I am sure you can still modprobe.

Does not explain why two systems which boot from an identical image don't load the same kernel modules. Any ideas on that?

You're missing these modules. Check /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modprobe.conf
from the system that is working and compare it to a system that is not.
Maybe manually modprobe for mptsas on the box that is not working and see if
it detects the disk.

I guess I left this part out of my initial description:

These are all booting per RedHat's diskless instructions (i.e. per
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/4/html/System_Administration_Guide/Diskless_Environments.html).
This has the disadvantage of booting from a "gold" image whose changes
can be instantaneously pushed out to all clients. Modprobe won't work
in this situation, if I'm reading the tea leaves correctly.
