Yup, I've done that with my Mini9.  Since I close the lid a lot when 
carrying it from room to room, it does nothing when the lid is closed; I 
have to manually go tell it to suspend.  And every once in a while it 
simply--doesn't. :-(  Running 10.04 LTS if it matters...
