can i get them to provide a static ip for a homenet?

As other folks have said, I'm surprised it changes often as well. Neither my FiOS nor my Comcast residential DHCP changes more often than once every couple of years unless the bridge has a 10+ minute power outage.

1) Is your bridge (cable "modem" or whatever) stable?
2) Are the MAC address of the device behind the bridge and the device itself stable?

If they aren't, if you can make them stable that might fix the problem. If not, the other suggestions about running a script or ddclient are your best bet.

There is some bash code to get started with in the cookbook:

Other tools:

"Microsoft Tax" = the additional hardware & yearly fees for the add-on
software required to protect Windows from its own poorly designed and
implemented self, while the overhead incidentally flattens Moore's Law.
