I long ago decided it was too much work to keep spam assassin, a database and mailserver etc up to date just for a few mailboxes so I use a hosting company for my primary email even though I have plenty of resources and bandwidth to do it locally. But then I use it for my consulting business and personal use. I also have a standalone open-source copy of Zimbra locally that I'm experimenting with - not sure what exactly the limits are with that as the sync for iPHone and Android are different. Contact me off-list if you want to evaluate either one. There was another solution named "SoGo" mentioned in my talk that uses Thunderbird and it's Calendar , but it never seemed to fully work with Android either and they seemed to be selling support just to get it working. But I tested a year ago, not sure it's current state. http://plone.4aero.com/Members/lmarzke/mobilecollab/index_html/presentation_view Lee > > For a small business that isn't a bad deal (collaboration/etc for up > to 15 people), but if all you need is an email client/server for > personal use that seems a bit steep. > > I'd definitely prefer to ditch proprietary cloud services like Gmail, > but it just seems like nothing else is comparable yet. > > Rich > ___________________________________________________________________________ > Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- > http://www.phillylinux.org > Announcements - > http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce > General Discussion -- > http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug > -- "Between subtle shading and the absence of light lies the nuance of iqlusion..." - Kryptos Lee Marzke, lee@marzke.net http://marzke.net/lee/ IT Consultant, VMware, VCenter, SAN storage, infrastructure, SW CM +1 800-393-5217 office +1 484-348-2230 fax +1 610-564-4932 cell sip://8003935217@4aero.com VOIP ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
