Sorry, no answer to your question but I'm very interested in the experiment. I have long thought that you could replace the OS, even without too much visual modification. My wife made the switch seamlessly, but she knew. I found out after the fact that she upgraded to 12.04 by herself. It's not like she took a course.

Let's face it - there's a START button and shortcuts. The concept holds across OSes. I'm probably giving my coworkers too much credit, though.

I wanted to swap OSes at work but there are programs that won't run under linux (and they ENJOY paying the MS tax).
