Just a note - your "current" versions aren't really all that current.

Gentoo is running git 1.7.8.6 as stable, and has 1.7.12 in testing.
Granted, we're interested in pushing that one along as we need
bleeding edge for our future migration of our tree to git (they want
to use commit signing with a version that doesn't have a broken
git-svn, and that was just fixed upstream thanks to Gentoo's first bug
bounty).

For reference:

        Tool CentOS-5 Current Gentoo
        ---- -------- -------- --------
        BZR none 2.5.1 2.4.1/2.5.1
        SVN 1.6.11 1.7.6 1.6.17/1.7.6
        git none 1.7.2 1.7.8.6/1.7.12
        net-snmp 5.3.2.2 5.7.1 5.7.2_rc1
        Python 2.4.3 3.2.3 3.2.3 (also
2.5.4/2.6.8/2.7.3/3.1.5)
        MySQL 5.0.95 5.6.6 5.1.62 (5.5.22 available
but masked)

Looking at the mask on mysql it appears that 5.5+ is considered alpha.
There are also some overlays with 5.2/5.3 available. I also note
that mysql is virtualized and mariadb is available as a replacement
(I'll have to look into that sometime - I've heard rumors that mysql
might be closing up).
