That's the general consensus about the Blender interface. It is frustrating to learn, but once you do, you can be very productive with it. Since most users attending will be unfamiliar with using the tool, I think I'll keep the talk to getting started with using Blender, and focus on the interface and usability.

Interesting.  This almost seems like one of those UI decisions that
might make software harder to learn, but easier to use.

If you have to drag things for extremely long distances, then not
having to keep the button held down might be considered a feature.
However, it would be anything but intuitive.
