Try selecting an object, then with the mouse hovered over the 3d view (context sensitive) press and release the "g" key (grab).. then move the object to your desired location. Press right mouse button to finish the move.Â

Interesting. ÂThis almost seems like one of those UI decisions that
might make software harder to learn, but easier to use.

If you have to drag things for extremely long distances, then not
having to keep the button held down might be considered a feature.
However, it would be anything but intuitive.
