Are they FOSS?

Personally, if I wanted a drone I'd probably be looking at something
based on Ardupilot or such.  But, for me it would be more about
tinkering with the drone and less about taking pictures from the air.

used with any drone.  There are drones which are sold commercially
that are based on Ardupilot as well.  It also supports both copters
and fixed-wing.
