Re: [PLUG] Raspberry Pi NAS question |
I've never had a problem with my pi's network interface going down. Mine stays up without an issue. I have samba, my irc bot, and weechat running on it.

Agreed. When the ports are idle they tend to shut down. My little security cam deployment (which I don't use anymore) used a USB cam and a USB network/bluetooth interface. It would record 100% of the time no problem but the issue was the network interface timing out which would make it unavailable. That's a bit of a problem if I'm away from home and I'm trying to remote it.
I suppose with the network issue, it would be easy enough to keep pinging something to keep the interface up so if you want to use this for a NAS you probably could write a little script that generates some drive activity every so often.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Subject: Re: [PLUG] Raspberry Pi NAS questionFWIW, I think you're just running into the limitations of low cost tinkerer/enthusiast gear. The USB on my RPis are all slightly flaky as well, especially when long idle or worked very hard.On Mon, Dec 21, 2015 at 10:31 AM, Adam Zion <azion1995@gmail.com> wrote:-ZMy Raspberry Pi NAS has the habit of dropping its USB connections. Specifically, after some period of inactivity, I'll try to connect to the drive that I have mapped to the SAMBA share, and it shows empty. When I SSH to the NAS, it throws an input/output error when I try to ls the mount (/media/drive1 or /media/drive2- they're mirrored USB2 drives). A warm reboot restores the connection, but the problems always returns.Any thoughts?
