Re: [PLUG] thoughts on Tarsnap?

Thanks for the information. I wanted to find a good off site backup software/service for myself and possibly for some of the businesses I provide IT services to. Tarsnap looked promising but I figured I'd ask around first. Given the good word and no horror stories, I will be giving it a try.

Thanks again,
Aaron.

Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone here has used Tarsnap, and if so, what you
though of it.

Thanks,

Aaron,

I heard of Tarsnap several years ago. I was impressed when I read about it and made a note to remember it. I have yet to use it though (I haven't had a need).

It uses deduplication so it can end up being cheap. I like the fact that it's a "pay for what you use" style.

It's run/owned by a former FreeBSD security officer and the code for it is open source. He wrote a new key derivation function (scrypt) for Tarsnap.

I'd definitely trust it and wouldn't hesitate to use it if I had a need for it.

Steve
