Stick with the plain old usb-serial db9 adapter. You can get a lot of different uses out of it. 

I use it with cisco console cables, null modem cables, various vendor specific pin outs and cabling, etc, etc.

Three pieces, with a little Null Modem adapter for those days when DTE/DTC world was more prevalent. Not sure I have to worry about ripping out the null modem for plugging into other things anymore.

Saw this one cable solution, not sure if worth it. Anyone have this?:
