Its probably LVM (possibly ZFS for non JBOD configurations) but I wouldn't pull drives just yet- its time for a support call.

Perhaps though, a review of the firmware code would be in order?

Not that it helps now but these types of issues are the reason why I don't recommend these purpose built NAS devices.  I had a client that had a single disk My Cloud and when it became problematic, support was surprisingly useless.  I ended up breaking the device open, pulling the drive and using it elsewhere.

Of course, YMMV.  There are plenty of fans of Synology, QNAP and TrueNAS/FreeNAS products.  I would be curious to know how support does for you if you do call.
