[PLUG] [plug-announce] Tue, Jul 12, 2016: PLUG North - "Highly Available, Fault-Tolerant App Environments with AWS" by Ronald P. Guilmet (*6:30 pm* at CoreDial in Blue Bell)

PLUG North will be meeting on Tuesday, July 12 at CoreDial's
offices in Blue Bell, beginning at 6:30 pm. Directions to the meeting
location can be found at the end of this email.

This month, Ronald P. Guilmet will present a talk on Amazon Web Services,
and will build a highly-available, fault-tolerant application
environment during the presentation.

The app used for the demonstration will be a WordPress installation
using Amazon's Relational Database Service (RDS). The database will be
setup with multi availability zones AZ, for high availability and fault
tolerance.

The demo will also show how to:

  - Use Amazon CloudFront as a CDN, caching the static files around the
    world for improved latency

  - Use the W3 Total Cache plugin, which will automatically update the
    CloudFront CDN files

  - Create a skeleton Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

  - Bootstrap with Auto Scaling, which will automatically create or
terminal Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) as the load increases or
    decreases

  - Configure Route53 to handle the DNS and support failover
