I haven't had any issues either.

As Brent indicated, it is good to rebuild your grub.cfg before you do another grub-install but for basic system maintenance tasks I have not had to do this manually.

The only time I have to do this is when I am moving systems to different hardware (i.e. hardware personality change or flash drive builds) and to virtualization.

have you been remembering to run grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
after every change?

i haven't had any issues with grub on SSD, even changing/customizing the
grub cfg.
