Re: [PLUG] do no evil

No, you are wrong, Google will steer you towards those companies that generate /them/ the most revenue, not those that will solve your problem.

(I'm a bit sleep deprived so forgive my irateness)

Imagine arriving in a new town late night. All of the main street Mom and Pop stores are closed(slackers). Starvation is quickly closing in. In a last ditch effort to save your family, you turn to your cell phone and Google places to eat. Google been tracking your entire journey, Google knows you are on the brink of death. Google is worried about your well being and dedicates all of it's servers to finding you something to eat. Google maps pops up with a McDonald's location and turn by turn instructions to get there. You hit the start button for the directions and are greeted by a reassuring voice.
Salvation
God Bless Google

What "did get us Manhattan and the West Coast" is probably out of the scope of this conversation, but certainly wasn't trinkets.

It's not terrible if it gets me to a McPick 2 asap.

It's terrible because they are selling your location to McDonalds.

It's terrible because someone is monitoring your location, or because Google is doing it? All cell phone carriers monitor your location 24/7. Apple does it. Microsoft does it (and not just on phones!). I'm not saying it's a non issue, I'm just wondering why you are only calling out Google about it.

according to this, Google Maps is on, tracking your location, even if you uninstall it. 'Fix' is to turn off GPS and use it only if/when you need it.
