Re: [PLUG] Need A Calendar Server Recommendation

The net of it is it sounds like Nextcloud has a more complete calendar.  Although I'd be interested to know if it is still missing the other two options.

I'm on 8.2.3.2 of Owncloud (it tells me I'm update) and I still can't import ICS calendars.  I can export my calendar as ics but that's not what I really want.

I am not sure about #1 and 2, but it can certainly do #3 in Nextcloud.

I use owncloud right now but the functionality is quite limited. But it uses the DAV standard so you can connect to it from just about everything.

Limitations I can remember off the top of my head..
- Custom reoccurring appointments is lacking
- Can't use it to create meetings/appointments involving other people
- Can't import ics calendars
It's been awhile since i've played with it so these gaps may have been fixed.

I've been looking at other options. Haven't been able to play with anything yet but Baikal is at the top of my list.

Owncloud/Nextcloud have calendar functionality, in addition to a boat load of other stuff. I use it all the time.

You could use Zimbra for just the calendaring functionality.  Might be overkill but if you have the resources (i.e. run it in a VM) I would recommend it.

Subject: [PLUG] Need A Calendar Server Recommendation

I had been using Outlook to handle my personal and work-related
scheduling.   This worked well on both my Windows work PC and my android
phone.

The problem is that jobs come and go, and when they go they take the
calendar with them.

I want to set up my own calendar server for me and my family to use with
our Linux and android systems.    I run my own servers and so can set up
any type of calendar server I desire.   I've already got eMail (postfix),
so would prefer a simpler stand-alone calendar system that will not
interfere with the mail server.

Can anyone make a recommendation for a calendar server?

TIA!
