Re: [PLUG] Linux friendly camera system |
Thanks everyone for the feedback. From the reading I did this is an awesome time to be playing with cameras: it seems like for all but the most specialized of needs a $40-$100 consumer grade camera has awesome features and with some exceptions all are standards compliant and plug right into the free Mac/PC/Linux DVRs I’m going to give an yi outdoor camera a try. They are not standards compliant out of the box but there are a few hacks out there. More important though they seem to have the most polished and affordable cloud service which realistically makes the most sense for us. My wife is non-technical so I’d like a plug and play app and I don’t have the time/energy to start another project. A friend who’s very smart but not technical has a pair in his house and likes them very much. https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/has-anyone-managed-to-set-up-xiaomi-yi-ip-camera-with-blue-iris.6566/ http://en.miui.com/thread-196713-1-1.html https://github.com/fritz-smh/yi-hack That third link disables the cloud service which isn’t ideal at the moment but long term might be okay. Here’s my logic fwiw: ARLO: proprietary, not inexpensive Foscom: pricey cloud service Reolink: not inexpensive, requires a separate DVR and their wireless DVR solution maxes out at 4 cameras Hikvision: no cloud service that I could see Dahua: no cloud -morgan > On May 15, 2018, at 1:08 PM, Morgan Jones <morgan@morganjones.org> wrote: > > > Does anyone run a camera system that is linux/unix friendly? > > Ideally I’d like it to be completely wireless and dump data to a NAS though I could make PoE work. That would be fine though it wouldn’t be bad to have proper DVR software. It need not be open source but I’d prefer to not be tied to a specific DVR vendor. > > Thanks, > > -morgan > ___________________________________________________________________________ > Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org > Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce > General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
