Re: [PLUG] LInux on Chromebook

Just a suggestion, but if you're completely disinterested in running ChromeOS, you might have good luck swapping someone straight across for a "normal" laptop. It would make installing Linux a lot more straightforward, and support would likely be a lot better.

What about the Chromebook made it appealing, aside from the price?

I have an i3 Chromebook and I put Ubuntu GNOME or it.  Not a big deal as far as installs (I wanted ChromeOS so I run Linux from the SD slot) but you probably want to run new kernels.  Debian 9.5 is very recent so hopefully you'll be fine.

16.04 was "ok" for me but even 17.10 still has some issues (internal audio).  Not a big deal since I normally am casting content or I go back to ChromeOS.

Subject: [PLUG] LInux on Chromebook

As my "free" gift for switching to FiOS, I got a fairly nice Samsung
Chromebook with an Intel Celeron processor.  Naturally, I want to
immediately dump ChromeOS and install some flavor of Linux (probably
Debian).

There's a google-supplied app called "crouton" that lets you run both,
but I'm not really to thrilled with that idea.

I'm thinking of trying the JohnLewis.ie hack to load coreboot.

Has anybody done this?

Any advice for the hacker?

TIA!
