support.mozilla.org has an article on "Firefox is stuck in safe mode" - http://mzl.la/1BAQnJr - but the fix appears to be "close firefox all the way, in fact, just reboot." - and I can't imagine you haven't tried that already.

some previously visited web sites, because "Safe Mode is on".  I know nothing
about this, and would like to turn 'Safe Mode' off.  I have googled for info on
this, but get mostly answers from people running Windoze.  My Firefox, which I
start up each morning after booting, is running on my Debian jessie(old, I know)
