I can confirm that recent versions on Debian do compile-in support for net
redirections. I just tested with the 'bash' package version 5.0-2:
    
    $ bash --version | head -n 1
    GNU bash, version 5.0.2(1)-release (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu)


A little digging with 'get-get changelog bash' shows that it was one of the
packaged versions of bash 4.0 in which the build was changed to compile in
support. It's not clear to me whether it was 4.0-4 or 4.0-5, though:
