Re: [PLUG] taskbook, Zoom |
Jeff, Agree 100%... Herd mentality or I guess FOMO is a hell of a drug. Being real with people and talking about all the bad things that can happen to them for some reason doesn't work for the masses. You get 10% to maybe 20% of the audience that gets it and changes behavior but that means you're losing 80% or more normally. In recognition of that, what I have recently been doing in user security training is discussing things from an empowerment point of view. Encouraging people to trust their gut- see something say something, no you're not stupid, if it looks weird to you it is, etc. At some point being willing to learn has become a problem so if its not easy, there must be something wrong. People use FB because its easy, people don't pay attention to security because its not easy. Its scary how much people post of their private lives to graze in the comfort of the herd. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Keith C. Perry, MS E.E. I can't even get security people to use Signal, if that says anything to you. My observation is that no one cares or wants to be bothered. When I talk to people about security/privacy, their eyes glaze and roll back in their heads. How many billions of people are on FB? Privacy is an old word without meaning to many. ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
