Re: [PLUG] other laptop

I have been buying System 76 laptops at home and at work for over a dozen years, and have always been happy with them. The backup laptop of one son is a 10-ish year old System 76, and I have a System 76 Atom powered Netbook sitting around that still powers up and runs (or maybe I should say walks, considering its speed). And of course, I have never had a problem with Linux compatibility, as I have had with other brands of laptops. And yes, they do cost a bit more, as the company doesn't have the same economies of scale.

While I will hands down always recommend Thinkpads, I've had some issues with other Lenovo models (like their Yoga or cheaper consumer line). I can't speak for the Legion line, other than I thought it was gear towards gaming.

I've been super interested in buying a System76 lappy for a while, I just can't justify the expense of a brand new laptop. Anyway, if 1500 is your budget, they just refreshed the Serval line with Ryzen chips. They are supposed to be bananas https://system76.com/laptops/serw12/configure

She Who Must Be Obeyed gave me a budget for something hotter than the
Thinkpad I got (thanks for the tips, PLUG).

Research: I know almost every Intel chip and have no idea which is
better and current. Ebay- coupla Alienwares, a few 17" Thinkpads and
HPs. Wildly varying options.

How's this Legion 5?

NEEDs
17" video
number pad
backlit kbd
8+ RAM
Desktop replacement, some horsepower

Intel or AMD, size + weight don't matter
1.5k budget

Don't do the work: Steer me in the right direction, please. Thanks.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

I despise people who go to the gutter on either the right or the left and hurl rocks at those in the center.

With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own.
