Saaaay whaaaat?

On my desktop Dovecot IMAP server, which has a few hundred thousand
messages, Thunderbird takes hours to retrieve everything the first time,
and is quite slow in every other endeavor, even afterward. 

Meanwhile, Claws-Mail retrieves everything, for the first time, in a
matter of minutes. When I figure out how to correctly use Mutt with
IMAP, I'll be evaluating Mutt.
