[PLUG] Can someone explain pruning to me?

Hello,

I have an Ethereum validator node running 24/7 on Ubuntu’s latest version using Geth. 

I’m trying to set up auto pruning using the steps highlighted below but I’m not even sure how the actual pruning process works. Any insight into this would be appreciated as I am a noob when it comes to Linux and I would like to understand the process instead of just following the steps blindly.

Pruning can be done automatically with Cron Jobs and scripts. See the following for an example:
