Re: [PLUG] Upgrading Kubuntu 18.04 -> 22.04 |
My advice is not to upgrade upon release. There are bugs that are ironed out in the first few weeks almost every time like clockwork, and I have broken a prod machine before by running and upgrade on the release date. You can upgrade piecemeal to 20.04 and then to 22.04 and this is workable, but if you are going to do this I recommend not rushing into it and holding off a few weeks. If you want it right away do a fresh install. I think you will have a safer experience if you do it this way if this machine is in every day use. Install Arch once so you never have to upgrade again.-Will C___________________________________________________________________________On Fri, Apr 15, 2022 at 3:35 PM Greg Helledy via plug <plug@lists.phillylinux.org> wrote:___________________________________________________________________________I have a machine with Kubuntu 18.04, which I have been waiting for 22.04 (release next week) to update.
The website says there is no direct upgrade-in-place option 18.04 -> 22.04, only 20.04 -> 22.04.
So it seems I have two choices:
- Install from scratch
- Upgrade 18.04 -> 20.04, then upgrade 20.04 -> 22.04
My instinct tells me 1. might produce a better, more-stable result, but maybe that’s a dated way of looking at things. If you’ve done an 18.04 -> 20.04 upgrade, did it produce a good result and are you planning to upgrade 20.04 -> 22.04? Or would I be better served making the effort to do a fresh install?
