Re: [PLUG] Mute button in conferencing apps may not actually mute your mic

I’d forgotten that detail of the plot, but I did find it amusing that Mike was able to listen in on all those conversations simultaneously (and take part in others) but had trouble calculating ballistic trajectories.

Mid-60s ideas of what would be easy and hard for computers to do haven’t aged well.

This reminds me of one of my favorite Sci-fi stories, "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert Heinlein where the self-aware computer (Mike, aka Microft Holmes) listens in on the telephone receivers even though the phones are on the hook.  Naturally, everybody thinks they have privacy when the phone is hung up, not realizing that Mike is listening all the time to all the phones.

This is a bit off topic but since we do get into security conversations here, I thought people might find this interesting.  Jitsi Meet also happens to be on the list of apps reviewed too.  That's been my go to conference app when I get to select what to use.  That said, since the Zoom security issue days, I started doing all "muting" activities from my local device controls or I just unplug my webcam when I have concerns.

I'm having a laugh that Cisco WebEx was the "worse case"  :D
