Re: [PLUG] RJ45 Cables - crimping

Hi Joe.

My thought, go back to basics:

0) Set the tester aside for a few minutes and pull out or borrow a multimeter (I have 2 if you need to borrow one.)
1) Set to measure resistance and, if you have the feature, enable the "beep" or "tone" for continuity on the lowest range  Bottom Line: when you put the two leads of the MM together it should quickly read less than 1 ohm and, if enabled, should make a beep or tone.
2) Lay out your cable and test each line at each end 1-1, 2-2, etc. (Continuity.)
3) Also, test line 1 against 2-8, 2 against, 1,3-8, etc (Isolation.)
This will take a few minutes however if that works then the cable is good.

Good luck!

I own this rj45 tester, and am having an odd problem. Long story short running some cable and both 3 and 4 came up blank. Figured I messed up one side, did the dance to replace them and still the same. Grabbed a known good cable and it is doing the same thing. Uhg. Have no idea how the internal electronics of this works - but is that a possible failure state? The tester has had very light usage...

Since the cable run has PoE I thought I did something stupid, even though I made sure the cables were unplugged. But if that was true, PoE for T568-B is on 4,5 and 7,8. Not 3.

I was about to go get some new 9v batteries in the hopes this was some odd "weak battery" problem.

Thoughts?
