Re: [PLUG] Epson Multi-function Support

Hi all,

I just wanted to add that both Android and iOS have the ability to scan documents with their camera apps. (Instructions at the links.) Of course this can't replace a dedicated stand-alone scanner, but if you don't need to scan many documents you might be able to get by with just your phone. I scanned a tax document for my accountant last year and it worked great.

Back to my RX-620 (Ubuntu), I've been using Skanlite without issue for a long time.  I forgot that Epson has Image Scan, so I just tried that from .deb.  The install went fine, but does not detect the scanner (USB).   They also provide source.

In my bleeding edge Gentoo system, HPLIP was broken when I tried the network scanning function.  I haven't tried it lately, and don't even remember what exactly didn't work the last time I tried it.  I remember thinking that HP would be "safe" since they are so widespread.  But living on the edge has its disadvantages.  (It also can be a lot more fun!)

Echoing Jeff here; we may be the odd men out but generally (especially lately) I've also had better luck with HP Laser MFP than Epson on Linux (obligatory "I use Arch, btw" here), as long as hplip is installed.

That's odd.. I've used HP almost exclusively (Ubuntu)
Weird problems now and then, but fixable. Earlier AIOs had crappy
hardware that broke.
I looked at an Epson that flat out wouldn't work (but that was only one
example).

Good luck!
