If you want access to gmail Gnome Evolution works out of the box.
Thunderbird requires an external bridge to connect to gmail.  Evolution
is great for clear signing text messages.

Concerning Pale Moon:
I used to use Pale Moon until it became no longer maintained.  Numerous
plugins are no longer able to be installed in Pale Moon.  I currently
use IceCat which is partly maintained by ESR.
