[PLUG] [plug-announce] Tue Aug 8 - PLUG North - "Open Source for Amateur Radios" by Walt Mankowski (7pm ET online)

PLUG North will be meeting on Tuesday, August 8, beginning at 7pm EDT
(2300 UTC). The meeting will be online. Details are at the bottom of
the email.

This month, PLUG welcomes back Walt Mankowski (KC3WHU). To honor the
memory of Jim Fisher (AJ3DI) Walt will be giving a talk entitled "Open
Source for Amateur Radios".

Jim Fisher was the president of the Phil-Mont Mobile Radio Club. He
made a huge impression on everyone in the club, and was responsible
for bring a lot of new operators into the hobby. I passed the first
two licensing exams in June, and I would have never done that without
Jim's tireless enthusiasm and encouragement. I'll talk about my
journey into the world of ham radio over the past 6 months or so, how
to get your license, and then some open source tools to help get more
  out of the hobby.

We'll be using Jitsi Meet, a free and open source videoconferencing
platform, for the meeting. The meeting will start at 7 PM. I'm hoping
to start fairly close to 7 in case attendees want to switch over to a
Phil-Mont Zoom call at 8. More details on that will follow.

You can access the meeting online at

Jitsi Meet also has apps for iOS and Android. If you decide to
use one of those apps, use meeting code "PLUGNorthAugust2023".
