Re: [PhillyOnRails] osx VWM

I only went for a gig of ram with the MacBook Pro, and using
Parallells, I wish that I had gone for 2 gigs. Parallels' video
memory is limited to 8 MB or something like that in this beta preview
-- I believe that is something they are continuing to work on. It is
pretty much a memory glutton, but you can set how much memory the
guest OS(s) have at their disposal.
Switching in and out of the guest PC does sometimes yield a beach-
ball of doom, but it runs at a nice pace when you're actually in it.

Aaron,
How is Parallels in terms of memory usage? Also, have you had any
problems with it? There seems to be a bug causing a kernel panic
during heavy network traffic (http://forum.parallels.com/
thread89.html). have you run int to this issue? Looks promising
though, and it will open up a lot of options. This might be what
pushes me over the edge to actually go out and get an Intel Mac.

I use Virtue because it is Universal and pretty fast. The docs,
well, I couldn't find any... Enough fooling around in the menus
and discovering shift-tab (which lets you reorder your windows)
lead me to a better understanding of it. There is no easy way to
send individual windows accross screens (AFAIK) but minimizing in
one, switching and then restoring works just fine for most apps.
Oh, and I now use Parallels (www.parallels.org) for VM so I can
run legacy operating systems and browsers (like xp and ie6 / ie7
public beta.) It is in beta now, but pretty cool nonetheless. FAST
xp install from disk image.
