I use DCAnet and this isn't the case.  I don't know whether it was
perhaps former policy or what -- I haven't had to do any
authentication at all, and I've changed which machine I have connected
to my dsl several times.  None of those times have I called them and
given them the mac address.

Also, I have 1 ip address, not 5 or 6.

On a side note, my experiences with them have been wholly positive.
