speaking of the mbr, does anyone know why once in awhile, and this only happens when the machine isn't properly shut down, that the mbr has been magicially wiped of lilo, and I see that scary "Starting Windows 98..." What could be doing this? I am only just curious because and don't really need to fix it because for one, my linux machine is rarely shut down - usually only in cases of severe thunderstorms :) and also I am getting ready to fdisk that partition anyway, I only kept it around so that Suburban@home would play nice when they came to install the cable modem. -- Michelle Weber umweber@mcs.drexel.edu On Tue, 17 Aug 1999, Kyle Burton wrote: > if the boot record is screwified, don't forget the 'magic' switch for > fdisk (ms version): > > c:\fdisk /mbr > > that re-creates the mbr...sometimes you need this so windows will play > with the drive (as long as you can re-run lilo [i.e. from a boot disk], > you shouldn't have trouble getting the box to dual/tripple boot again). > I've had to do this [sometimes] when installing windows onto a partition > that was previously either empty (no type flag, or no format), and/or > used to be something cooler (ext2). > > k > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > "The more I want to get something done, the less I call it work." > -- Richard Bach, "Illusions" > mortis@voicenet.com http://www.voicenet.com/~mortis > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > On Tue, 17 Aug 1999, Aaron Brown wrote: > > > do you still have any linux running on this computer still? if not try > > using the fdisk from win98, it recognizes more fstypes. > > > > -- > > -Rune > > > > Walk a Mile in another man's shoes, and you will risk getting Athlete's Foot... > > > > In the Depths of the minds of the insane Fantasy and Reality are the > > same... > > > > On Mon, 16 Aug 1999, Brent R.
