In order to become an MCP, you only need to pass a single Microsoft test.
I would recommend picking a product that you are familiar with, preferably
from using it, get a book to review with (I recommend the Exam Cram and
Exam Prep series of books -- I forget the publisher), and schedule a test.
Sylvan Prometric has a variety of testing centers in the area (my company
has one in our Upper Darby office). Call 1-800-755-EXAM to schedule a
test. Check out http://www.microsoft.com/mcp to get the test number that
you need for the product you want to certify on.

There is another testing service in the area called VUE. While my company
is currently looking at adding a VUE testing center to one of our offices,
I'm not familiar with their registration process.

I found the NT Workstation and NT Server tests rather easy for people that
have spent a fair amount of time using and supporting it. I would
strongly recommend that you get a prep book for the first test so that you
have an idea of what to expect. You may also want to download the PEPTest
package from the Microsoft MCP site to help you prep.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me directly.

It all depends on the tests. Some are easier than others. I would make
sure that your boss is only requiring MCP certification and not MCSE
(Microsoft Certified System Engineer), which requires six tests.
