Depends on which parts of it you focus on, since the "core" of Mac OS X is a BSD/Mach kernel - you can't get more Unixy then that. But yes, everything that sits on top of it is more "Mac-ish" (but then again, we talk about things like GNOME and KDE...)




not to mention the general evilness of propriatary software.

Darwin, the Mac OS X kernel, is available as open source - see <http://www.publicsource.apple.com/>. I assume that makes it less evil ;).
