Not sure if I wanna upgrade the whole kernel just yet. But it's good to know. But I decided to just go for it. And the 2.2.18 source comes with USB support, by default. And the kernel seems to be seeing all my devices. Cool! And on the first time, too! :-) I do see a couple things in the log, tho, that I'm unsure how to correct ... Dec 11 02:24:05 dude kernel: Symbol table has incorrect version number. Dec 11 02:24:05 dude kernel: Inspecting /System.map Dec 11 02:24:05 dude kernel: Symbol table has incorrect version number. Dec 11 02:24:05 dude kernel: Cannot find map file. I guess I need a symbol table, specifically from my 2.2.18 compile? But where is it? Also .. I have a Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! (a damn good soundboard, BTW). Oddly, tho, now the default sound level (as evidenced by system sounds in Helix Gnome) is much lower than before (and I didn't change any volume levels anywhere). Also, the log shows this: Dec 11 02:27:03 dude modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Dec 11 02:27:03 dude modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Dec 11 02:27:03 dude modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1 Dec 11 02:27:03 dude modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0 Never saw this error before. But previously, I was using the EMU401K module (the sound module for a Live!) that came with RedHat 6.2. I need some alias commands in modules.conf, I guess? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael J.
