Check Documentation/Changes in the kernel source tree.  For a very handy
way to see your versions of everything, run 'sh scripts/ver_linux' from
the top-level source directory.

Tried running 'depmod -a'?  That worked for me when I was having problems,
and it's what some distributions' startup scripts do at every boot.
