Use ntpdate the first time and at startup. Use ntpd from
there. They're both part of the ntpd package (apt-get'able if you are
debian). Consider setting your hardware clock after the ntpdate and
from time to time via cron lest you get weird file system errors when
you come up and mount a file system from the future.

Read the ntpd docs, at least enough to understand what you're
doing. The theory is fascinating, but you can get by without it in a
pinch.

In particular note that it is polite to tell the Penn State (sic)
server admin that you are using their server.
