First run (don't walk) to your nearest kde mirror and grab the latest KDevelop. This will allow you go get into things asap. The templates for helloworld.cpp and friends will have everything setup for you. As for languages, what do you want to do? GUI, cgi, database? Perl and Python make VB look like a kludge when you are trying to do DBI stuff. Java is slow but will keep your skills very marketable in the "real world". And C++ opens many new avenues of adventure. In my opinion KDevelop is the most mature IDE for linux save for the commercial verison of Code Warrior. If you are interested in C/C++ kdevelop is a perfect fit. If you are looking for Python/Perl scripting checkout Kate (The IDE style editor for KDE). - -ian reinhart geiser p.s. I am biased to KDE only because I am a KDE developer. This is only what I know well, this is only the tip of the iceburg. - -- ======================================== The system was down for backups from 5am to 10am last Saturday. ======================================== -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.4 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7nSD0Py62TRm8dvgRAgX6AKCkdU8yALWvg763qslOiV47mUq+yACfSu1e FChHjvy6ksoIXeoqpAt4dvM= =f90S -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
