Heh.  I was about to suggest using "ssh -X" myself.  :)

Personally, I'd prefer to just get a shell and then run whatever I want
from the shell, but TMTOWTDI.

Winpoet is, I believe, a client for that PPPoE stuff.  Try Roaring
Penguin (.com) or whatever comes with the distribution being used.
(Actually, I think the 2.4 kernel supports PPPoE natively.  But you
probably have to have userland utilities to do it.  Thankfully, I've
never had to deal with it.)
