I've been wanting to put Linux on the family computer, but afraid that wife
and kids would be unable to adapt to a computer without MS Word. This
looks like the answer.

(Oh, and for the curious: yes, you can use X Window System-dependent
stuff too... not straight within Aqua, last I checked, but in a
separate virtual terminal.)
Actually, you CAN use XWindow-based applications fully integrated
with all those other applications. They still look like X apps though
rather than having the Aqua "look & feel" - but that's also comforting
that they look and act the same as they do on other Unices.
(Is it one of the shiny Powerbooks? Those are just painfully
pretty...)
