I just got a call from verizon offering me services. They don't know what they are offering. It's like asking a car dealer whether the car has an air conditioner or not. I asked them about the rumor that they block certain ports. Three people didn't know. I told them I wanted to run a webserver. They still couldn't help me. One man said that, "he didn't think so." Hmmm...now I call back and they deny ever having said that. I know that trick. They kept trying to sign me up. I offered to sign up if they would just put it into writing, no ports blocked. I told them that if they didn't do this then they were not offering, "true internet." After failing to sign me up, THEY wanted to get off the phone. Here they were bothering me. :) I suggest if anyone gets bugged about this, they ask the same questions. 30 days of having a free webserver could be nice. You probably won't get one, but they will start to wise up (I would think) if they keep getting asked the same questions. All I wanted them to say was, "no." I didn't think I was going to change the world. I even offered to clear their name, as I told them that I had read this "rumor" about port blocking. I guess they like their name sullied. :) Fred Ollinger (follinge@sas.upenn.edu) CCN sysadmin ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
