I seem to recall a book published a few years ago which stated that in
order to get a full newsfeed, it required a dedicated T-1 running at
full capacity 24/7.

In all fairness, the book (can't remember which one, unfornately;
perhaps Frisch's _Essential System Administration_?) did say that it was
exceedingly likely that the requirements would only continue to
increase.  Amusing nonetheless, IMO.
